PORTLAND, OR – David A. Thompson, president and chief executive officer of Portland-based TEC Equipment, Inc., has pledged $5 million to support the construction of a new medical/surgical patient care facility at Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center. “David’s incredible generosity will allow us to better serve the South Metro community,” said Allyson Anderson, chief administrative officer of Legacy Meridian Park.

“We’ve been extremely fortunate with our family business, and trust this gift will help provide a not only needed, but also sustainable service to the community,” said Thompson, “Legacy Meridian Park is in my neighborhood, and since 1973, they have consistently delivered great care for my family and our community.” Thompson’s gift will help cover the costs of construction, furnishing, equipping and program support for the new patient care room replacement building.

In 1976, Thompson founded TEC Equipment, Inc., a multi-point, full-service truck and trailer dealership group, which has grown to become the largest operation of its kind in the western United States. With 25 facilities in 22 cities in Oregon, Washington, California and Nevada, TEC Equipment is currently one of the largest U.S. truck dealers.

In recognition of this gift, Legacy Health will officially name the new patient building after the Thompson family. “We are honored to carry the Thompson family name on our new building,” said Anderson, “And, we are so fortunate they are deeply committed to our community’s needs – allowing us to continue with the most advanced health care for generations to come.”

Thompson has served on the Meridian Park Medical Foundation board of trustees since June 2005, and was treasurer from 2010-2014. The Foundation advocates and raises funds for Legacy Meridian Park, part of Legacy Health – the largest nonprofit, locally-owned health care provider in Oregon and Southwest Washington.

Legacy Meridian Park is the South Metro area’s most advanced medical center. Specialty services include neurology, orthopedic surgery, minimally invasive and robotic technology, cancer care, a nationally recognized stroke program, a nationally accredited breast health center and a chest pain center awarded the nation’s first Gold Seal of approval in chest pain by The Joint Commission –  the nation’s principal hospital accreditation agency.
