PORTLAND, OR – During the height of the 2015 Oregon wildfire blazes in August and September, TEC Equipment and TEC Leasing donated the use of a 2015 Volvo VNL670 truck with a 53-foot refrigerated trailer on two separate occasions to haul 60,000 pounds of food, sundries, and other relief supplies to the firefighters battling the blazes in central and eastern Oregon.
Johnston’s fiancé, Shawna Gogos, has a second-degree connection with the Portland-area organizer of the donations, Melissa Jones-Davis. Jones-Davis’ efforts were broadcast on Portland area media channels and eventually the Portland/Vancouver facilities for Nabisco and Frito Lay became involved, donating thousands of pounds of food.
The donation of the truck and trailer was organized by TEC truck sales representative Clint Johnston and Johnston himself drove the truck from Portland to John Day, OR and back on both occasions (542 mile round trip). TEC Leasing Manager Wade Norton and Rental Manager Kami Cady were also instrumental in procuring free use of the equipment as well as donating the diesel fuel. Assisting with unloading in John Day was local Mayor Jimmy Hopsure. Hopsure’s brother, George, donated warehousing and staging space and supply runs to the wildfire command posts were organized by local volunteers Linda Rockell and Trish Coburn.
The donation of the truck, trailer, fuel, and time is valued at $XX,XXX.
“I’m just happy that I was able to help make a difference,” said Johnston. “It feels good to be part of a company that cares enough to donate big dollar resources like this.”
