David A. Thompson founded TEC Equipment in 1976. During those early days in Portland, Oregon, TEC Equipment was known as Thompson Equipment Company and its business was buying and selling used trucks and trailers.
Today, David is joined by his three sons, David O., Chris, and William. This proud, family-owned business is now the largest full service truck and trailer dealership on the West Coast of the United States. We have 28 locations in Washington, Oregon, Nevada, California, and Arizona, serving a population base of more than 40 million people.
TEC Equipment’s growth in the dealership industry is unprecedented. Our expansion from a single used truck center in Portland, Oregon to 28 truck and trailer dealerships in 17 cities in Washington, Oregon, Nevada, California, and Arizona is a tribute to this. Our focused strategy has yielded 40 years of market share growth and financial stability.
TEC Equipment has focused its growth strategy along the Interstate 5 corridor. It is the route many of our original customers traveled and on which they continue to operate today. Covering more than 2,000 miles of I-5, TEC Equipment is the only dealership group to offer this footprint, providing seamless service, reliable pricing, discounted fuel, and extended hours. In addition to new and used truck and trailer sales, parts, and service, our dealerships provide truck leasing and rental, financing, insurance, and auto transport equipment sales and service.
TEC Equipment, Inc. is proud to represent Volvo and Mack trucks, and Wabash Trailers, as a franchise dealer in key markets across the West. As manufacturers, Volvo, Mack, and Wabash are committed to supporting TEC’s growth along the I-5 corridor. Over the years we have formed a strong “Best Business Partner” relationship which has benefited each other and enabled TEC Equipment to provide first class customer service throughout the corridor. Together, TEC Equipment, Volvo, Mack, and Wabash have made significant inroads in growing market share in the western United States. Today, TEC Equipment, Inc. ranks among Volvo’s top dealers in North America.
